charNG

I used it in the second page where I described my childhood. I first wrote a short paragraph telling my story. Then, when I put the text in charNG, it gave me the same text in a very different format. Some were still readable and understandable, but I enjoyed the fact that the text that it gave me as a result looked completely different from what I actually type in. And so I wanted to compare them on the same page, distinguishing them with different fonts and line breakers.

Markov Generator

This was used in the page where I had to decide whether I should stay in Korea or move to Dubai with my parents. What I did here is very similar to the charNG experience. I wanted to see how this text generator would translate my own words. And again, I distinguished the generated text from the original with different fonts.

N+7

I used this in the Pratt page. I placed the text into the N+7 and it was just very exciting to see how the whole context became so different from the original. It was a great moment in the story to experiment with this kind of text that could bring some humor because it is a page full of joy.

Transcription -- use Otter.ai

This one was used in the very first page, the title page. I wanted to incorporate my own voice in there about my story. And I left the text as unedited to give the feeling of me actually speaking to the readers.

Oblique Strategies cards

Since my hypertext story is about choice making, I wanted to show the state of being in agony and the deep thought process. I wanted the readers to feel the tension between anxiety and excitement. So, some of the oblique strategies I used as I was writing the story were

Voicebox - Predictive Writer

I used this in one of the choice pages where I decided to follow my parents to the United States instead of going back to Korea after living three years in Dubai. When I was using this predictive writer website, I tried to focus on my feelings: scary and exciting simultaneously.

Anagram Generator

I used in the page right after the index page (the title page). I wanted to play with the title itself. And it was fun to see how “My Life Journey” could change into words like, “Enemy Foil Jury”.

Thank you so much for reading my story!
